Work Smarter, Not Harder: 21 Time Management Tips to Hack Productivity

Many folks in the society try to be hyper-productive. These folks associate being ever busy with success. Though to some extent this notion is true, it is also misleading as individuals feel less productive if they are not busy. Instead of this I choose the working smarter, not harder notion. Instead of working as a robot, I try to be thoughtful on my tasks and always see how I can simplify work within a short period so as to achieve more. I have compiled this list of 21 tips that will enable you to work smarter, not harder and still achieve more.

  1. Complete most important tasks first.

Each day, identify the two or three important tasks to complete and make sure you do them first.

  1. Learn to say “no”

Having a lot of commits has an advantage of training us on how to manage time. However, one can easily end up taking more than they can chew. Therefore, it is important to take up opportunities which you have time for and care about.

  1. Sleep at least 7-8 hours.

Most individuals require 7-8 hours of sleep which goes a long way into ensuring ones productivity. Hence you should listen to your body and don’t under estimate the power of sleep.

  1. Devote your entire focus to the task at hand.

Concentrate on the task at hand fully until you’re done. Nothing should take up your time except the task.

  1. Get an early start.

An early start is much safer and less stressful than procrastination.

  1. Don’t allow unimportant details to drag you down.
  2. Turn key tasks into habits.
  3. Be conscientious of amount of TV/internet/gaming time.

These activities suck up your time hence I suggest being aware of how much time you spend on them.

  1. Delineate a time limit in which to complete task.
  2. Leave a buffer-time between tasks.

Allowing ourselves a break within tasks can be a breath of fresh air for our brains.

  1. Don’t think of the totality of your to-do list.

Do one task at a time to avoid being overwhelmed by the massive work.

  1. Exercise and eat healthily.

Healthy lifestyle is associated with work productivity.

  1. Do less.

Do fewer things that have more value than more things that are of lesser value.

  1. Utilize weekends, just a little bit.

This may reduce the workload during the week and still leave more time to relax.

  1. Create organizing systems.
  2. Do something during waiting time.

Most of the time we are exposed to waiting in lines; one may take their work tasks and do them during the waiting time.

  1. Lock yourself in.

This ensures complete concentration on the tasks.

  1. Commit to your plan to do something.
  2. Batch related tasks together.
  3. Find time for stillness.
  4. Eliminate the non- essential

The most important goal is to enjoy work as work can be play too.
